What does weight management include?

Before your pet is placed on a weight management plan, we assess their overall health to determine which weight loss goals we’ll work together to achieve. We start by considering key metrics, like your pet’s weight, breed, age, and lifestyle, to determine a healthy weight for them. A healthy weight typically falls within a specific range based on these factors. Your pet’s weight management plan will be specific to their needs, including reducing their daily calorie intake and modifications. For example, pet owners unknowingly exceed their pet’s daily calorie intake with treats. In addition to reducing the number of calories your pet will eat daily, we’ll also curb habits like feeding unhealthy treats that negatively impact your pet’s diet.

How does weight management help my pet?

In addition to helping your pet lose additional pounds that could affect their mobility and quality of life, you’ll reduce the likelihood of your pet developing diseases that are more common in obese pets. Some of these include:

  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Cancer
  • Respiratory disease
  • Bladder stones
