Bloodwork

Bloodwork is an important diagnostic tool that reveals health information about patients.

Bloodwork allows us to take a deeper look at your pet’s overall health. This includes identifying any issues in their early stages. Bloodwork is often the best way to diagnose some health issues, giving you the most accurate results. We perform routine bloodwork as part of your pet’s regular wellness checkup as well as to support a diagnosis.

When does my pet need bloodwork?

Our team will recommend your pet have bloodwork during your pet’s regular wellness checkup, which varies depending on age and overall health. If something seems off with your pet or they are not quite like themselves, we’ll recommend bloodwork to help us diagnose the issue. If they are showing any of these symptoms, bloodwork can help us pinpoint the cause of the condition. Some symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Tiredness
  • Diarrhea

What will bloodwork tell you?

Specific parts of your pet’s body correspond to substances detectable in their blood. For example, high levels of amylase (a digestive enzyme) are connected to pancreatitis and kidney disease. Abnormally high levels of blood calcium can be a sign of cancerous tumours and kidney disease. Our in-house lab allows us to process bloodwork onsite, giving your pet’s results as soon as possible.
